Art
In the art curriculum the students are exposed to a variety of art techniques, activities and materials, with the emphasis on learning basic art skills and using creativity. Academic topics and related Art History will be discussed in class. Our classes also take trips to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and other museums.
Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2 include: collage, crayons, painting, design and cutting. The students will draw and paint from imagination as well as using objects in nature as models.
In Grades 3 and 4, projects may include: self-portraits, color theory, styrofoam printing, object printing, linoleum printing, puppet making, using clay, film making, art from different countries, and art in nature.
In Grades 5 and 6, projects may include mobiles, paper quilling, silk-screen printing, weaving, paper maché sculpture, art from different countries, and art in nature.
The art program is not seen as a separate entity within the scope of our school's curriculum, but rather one part of an interwoven holistic learning experience. Children are given a more comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the relationships that the various subjects in the curriculum have with each other.
