British Values

British Values

We are proud to champion British Values at our school.

  • The value of democracy.
  • Individual liberty.
  • The rule of law.
  • Mutual respect for, and tolerance of, those with different beliefs, and tolerance of those without faith.

We’re an inclusive school where we focus on the well-being and progress of every child and where all members of our community are of equal worth. We believe that the Equality Act provides a framework to support our commitment to valuing diversity, tackling discrimination, promoting equality of opportunity and fostering good relationships between people. It also ensures that we continue to tackle issues of disadvantage and underachievement of different groups.

Our school is also committed to supporting and promoting British Values and community cohesion in our school. We are committed to promoting and embedding equality of opportunity, community cohesion and British Values into all of our work.

These values are promoted through the pastoral system and regular assemblies. Our academy embodies a democratic model in the way we work, our rules and regulations are there for the benefit of everyone, and our academy takes a holistic approach to teaching British Values, rather than concentrating on individual subjects. Our core values of innovate, discover, explore and activate harness all aspects of British Values and allow a platform for delivery.

Within the promotion of fundamental British Values and the combination of welfare days, themes of the week, assemblies and life (PSHE) lessons, students at Wayland Academy experience SMSC.

We are committed to ensuring equality of opportunity in line with the Equality Act 2010. We want to reduce disadvantages, discrimination and inequalities of opportunity, and promote diversity in terms of our students, our workforce and the community in which we work.
