Our House System

At Wayland Academy the pastoral system monitors progress and supports students to ensure that they have every opportunity to achieve their potential whilst at the academy.

Our house system

When students join the academy, they will be placed in a tutor group of approximately 30 students with their own Form Tutor. All students are allocated to one of four houses:

  1. Hero
  2. Macmillan
  3. Nelson
  4. Star

Each house comprises of a Year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 tutor group.

Students engage in a wide range of house themed competitions and challenges, the biggest of which is our highly competitive sports day. All house competitions are linked to the academy rewards system.

Tutor time

During tutor time, students explore issues relating to their wider educational, social, moral, spiritual and cultural development. Students also use tutor time for reading, quizzes, progress conversations and assemblies. Form Tutors are there to support and advise students as required.

Points of contact

Form Tutor

The Form Tutor is the first point of contact for any queries or concerns that may arise. There is daily contact at morning registration, and the Form Tutor deals with routine communications between home and school – absence notes, notices of medical appointments and requests for information.

All Form Tutors are expected to have high expectations for uniform and punctuality, however, their primary role is to offer support for students and be a conduit to parents.

Should you wish to contact the academy in relation to your child, you should first contact their Form Tutor, then if the matter is not satisfactorily resolved contact the appropriate Head of Year.
