Careers
Careers education and guidance programmes make a major contribution to preparing young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. A planned progressive programme of activities supports our pupils to choose pathways that match their personal qualities, interests and goals.
Careers education is provided as a comprehensive programme throughout years 7-9 during a timetabled lesson as part of the PSHE program. Additional guidance is delivered during assemblies and form time at appropriate times throughout the academic year.
A qualified Level 6 Careers Advisor is on site a minimum of one day of every week. All Year 11 pupils are provided with at least one face-to-face interview to assist with post-16 transition and further appointments are made available for those pupils when additional support is required.
We welcome enquiries from parents and carers, representatives of local industry and educational providers. This information is updated yearly with our Provider Access Statement below.
"Every student will leave Wayland Academy feeling optimistic about their future and confident in their ability to determine and achieve their long-term goals."
Careers information for parents
Our careers plan is developed to give our students as many opportunities as possible of the workplace before they leave us at the end of Year 11. By providing careers events throughout each year they are with us, they are given the best possible chance to become confident, knowledgeable and prepared for when they reach the world of work. Alongside this we support our students with our careers advisor who can help them discover their passions, supporting them to choose pathways that align with their interests, skills and goals.
We use the online platform Unifrog to support our careers education. Access is available to all students to login and use the resources online, including workshops and webinars throughout the year. Available for parent use as well, a login can be accessed through the same email that is used for MCAS. For assistance in setting up your account please contact our careers lead.
Each year group have careers events and different focus throughout the year. Find your childs year group below to see their careers activities in each term.
