We are so proud of our production this year, with a stunning performance of ‘Sister Act Jr’, based on the film and Broadway musical, the feel-good show had our audiences bopping along and enjoying themselves.

Our team at Wayland Academy have been dedicated to producing the best possible version of our production this year, with lighting, sound and some costumes delivered by our team of staff. It is amazing the amount of work that has gone into making this a reality. All the students have been extremely dedicated to rehearsals, learning lines, songs and choreography.

“It has been a really fulfilling process watching our performers grow in rehearsals and be able to deliver two fantastic shows this May. A huge thank you to all of our students and staff involved in the production, and our audiences for supporting our young performers.”

The story begins with disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, when she witnesses a murder. She is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be a found: a convent!

Deloris finds herself disguised as a nun and at odds with both the rigid monastic lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. However, her unique disco moves and singing talent start to inspire the choir and Deloris breathes new life into the church and community, but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang she was hiding from is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.

“The students of our academy continue to deliver fantastic productions and have put together another fantastic show for our community. I am extremely proud of our young people who have grown so much throughout this experience. It was lovely to see such talented individuals own the stage and really showcase what a great experience our students have here at Wayland Academy.”

Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing, and a truly moving story, Sister Act JR. left our audiences filled with joy and most of all with a feeling of rejoice!

It is fantastic to be able to offer these opportunities for students of Wayland Academy, and increasingly valuable to be able to give students the chance to express themselves in a creative way.

We are excited about the future of performances at our academy and are excited to announce next years production soon!
