SEND Support and Information Evening
BackAt Wayland Academy we held a SEND support evening on Monday 17th November 2025. We were delighted to welcome 35 parents and carers of pupils from year groups across the school, as well as some parents of prospective pupils. We feel very fortunate to be part of such a proactive community who are willing to give up time in their busy lives to work collaboratively with us.
We were joined by Catherine Berwick (Director of Inclusion at Inspiration Trust) who spoke about Emotional Based Non School Attendance and provided practical strategies to support pupils experiencing challenges with attendance. Emma Gagen (SENDCO at Wayland Academy) spoke about Autism, routes to diagnosis and the wealth of support on offer within school.
We were also joined by the School and Community Team, the EPSS autism support team and SENDIASS who were on hand to offer parents and carers advice, support and sign posting.
The feedback from the event has been overwhelmingly positive. Following parent/carer feedback, plans are in place to run a further event focussing on parenting children with autism involving ASD Helping Hands.
