Pupils Attend the Norfolk Youth Against Bullying Conference
Back
19 pupils from Wayland Academy attended the Norfolk Youth Against Bullying conference last week, held by the Norfolk Youth Advisory Boards. One of our pupils, Evie, who has been attending the YAB sessions at school weekly since she started at Wayland hosted the event throughout the day. Three other pupils, Jaimee and Caitlyn in Year 11 and Cara in Year 7 delivered a keynote on the impact of PALS (Pupils Advising, Listening and Supporting) at Wayland.
The pupils, who all form part of Breckland YAB, meet weekly to discus issues in their local areas and work collaborately to enact lasting change for them and their peers.
In addition, 15 of our pupils, all trainee PALS in Years 9 and 10, attended to gain a greater understanding of the issues affecting young people today and working on projects to promote kindness and support pupils.
Feedback from the MAP worker who runs our YAB sessions is below:
'I wanted to pass on how proud I am of the Wayland Academy students who took part in NYAB last week. They represented your school brilliantly.
Evie was a calm and confident host throughout the day, and Jaimee, Caitlyn and Cara did a fantastic job sharing the impact of PALS. The way they spoke about the programme clearly struck a chord. Several schools said they wanted to set up something similar, and the level of interest during the Q&A was remarkable.
They should all feel really pleased with what they achieved. Please pass on my thanks and congratulations to them.'
