10 Mile Sponsored Walk Raises Over £1100
Back
Today, 35 pupils and staff at Wayland took to London to complete a 10 mile sponsored walk in aid of Wayland Academy's house charities. These charities were voted for and chosen by pupils to best represent their communities. All charities are local, being based in East Anglia or Norfolk.
Pupils walked from Tower Bridge to Vauxhall bridge, completing '10 bridges,' taking in famous sights such as the Globe, London Eye, St Paul's Cathedral, Borough Market and the Shard, through central London towards Buckingham Palace, down the Mall and through Horse Guards Parade. After this they headed to 10 Downing Street, parliament, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben, before returning alongside the Thames towards the Tower of London.
We're incredibly grateful to Cranswick Country Foods, a major employer in the local area, who kindly donated the cost of the coach to transport pupils to London.
We've raised over £1100 so far with more sponsorship to come in. Donations are still greatly received via the QR code attached.

The charities chosen are listed below with information on what they do, gathered from their website or fundraising leads:
The Big C: We are committed to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by cancer. By building strong partnerships, we help deliver first-class cancer support services and research. We strive to be the ‘go to’ organisation for the people of Norfolk whenever cancer support and information are required.
Nelson's Journey: Nelson‘s Journey supports children and young people in Norfolk who’ve experienced the death of a significant person. Since 1997, Nelson’s Journey has helped thousands of bereaved children and young people in the county.
It is thanks to the tremendous support of our local community that our work is possible. We provide a range of resources and services and accept referrals from families and professionals for those who may need our support.
A Bridge for Heroes: As a small charity with a big heart, The Bridge for Heroes has a committed team of trustees, staff and volunteers who all go the extra mile to ensure that the Armed Forces Community (AFC) in King’s Lynn, West Norfolk and beyond, receive help and support when needed.
Our service provision includes one-to-one and group sessions, a programme of activities, and informal social engagement aka a brew and a catch-up!
YANA: Supporting those working in agriculture and rural businesses across East Anglia.
Launched in 2008, YANA helps to improve mental health and wellbeing in farming and rural communities, where people can often feel isolated and under pressure. The charity provides practical advice and confidential, judgement-free support.
